The College was established at Talmavale in the remote, hilly and earthquake prone area of Patan Taluka of Satara district, Maharashtra in June 1969 by Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur in order to provide an opportunity for the students in the vicinity of the Wang Valley. The founder of the Sanstha Shikshanmaharshi Dr. Bapuji Salunkhe and the great patriot Late B. N. alias Kakasaheb Chavan established the college on a hill called naag tekadi i.e. a hill of snakes with a motto – ßKku] foKku vkf.k lqlaLdkj ;kalkBh f’k{k.kizlkjÞ which can roughly be translated as “Dissemination of Education for Knowledge, Science and Culture.”.  On October 30, 2017, the college is accredited by the NAAC for the 3rd cycle with CGPA 2.68 with B+ grade on the seven point scale which is valid up to October 29, 2022. The college is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It is recognized by the UGC, and included in the listed colleges of 2(f) and 12b. There are only two streams: Arts and Commerce at the UG level and Arts, Commerce and Science (Non-aided) at +2 level.  There are around 800 students admitted in the college at UG and around 700 students at +2 level in which girl students are more than 50%. The students secure various prizes in the university level magazine competitions. The students, who are deprived of education due to unavoidable circumstances,  are given an opportunity to pursue their academic career through the study centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik.
